THE RICKI LAKE SHOW HAS BEEN CANCELED

This should not come as a shock to anyone, but due to poor ratings, "The Ricki Lake Show" is no more.

According to Variety, Twentieth Television announced yesterday that they will not renew the show for a second season, but will continue to show episodes already in the can  for the next several weeks. The show used to come on at 4 pm, but recently was moved to 3pm, where it went up against former "Today" co-host Katie Couric, and "Steve Harvey."

Speaking of which Katie and Steve's shows are the only two so far that are bringing in the ratings, though in my opinion Steve Harvey's show is unwatchable.

As for another terrible talk show CBS Television Distribution's "The Jeff Probst Show," there is no word on the future of that show, since it's also not doing well in the ratings.
Season to date, "Ricki Lake" averaged a 0.7 household rating, the same as "Jeff Probst." "Katie" is tops with a 1.9 with "Steve Harvey" coming in second at 1.4.

"While we are proud of the topics the program tackled, including childhood obesity, life after the military, divorce and addiction, we were simply not able to breakthrough the crowded talk show marketplace," said Stephen Brown, Twentieth's exec VP of programming and development.

The problem with Ricki's show was that it was boring. Too many shows in daytime are covering the same topics, and when I was growing up in the 90's, i couldn't wait to get home from school and watch all the ratchetness on Ricki's first talk show. Now she's become this serious topic coverer and people for some reason aren't buying it. I'm still upset that Fox quickly gave the ax to Anderson Live, which was a better show than some of the other ones currently getting a longer than welcome push. Ricki, I love you girl, but Twentieth Television did the right thing by canceling the show.
