Entertainment Weekly has unleashed two different issue covers featuring Star Trek Into Darkness star Chris Pine, (I just got mine in the mail today) and in the article EW also reveals key plot details on the upcoming film.
While JJ Abrams and his team of writers have kept the film under wraps including who the film's villain Benedict Cumberbatch will be playing, (the fans have been speculating that he may be playing Khan), and now I can tell you that SPOILER ALERT he is indeed playing Khan.
Now before some of you Trekkers get your underoos in a knot by comparing Bebedict's performance to Ricardo Mantelban's Khan in Star Trek 2 before you've even seen an ounce of film (which is a fan favorite of the movie franchise), Montelban played Khan's clone, so being that JJ Abrams' version of Star Trek is more of a prequel documenting Captain Kirk's and the early years of the Starship Enterprise, it does leave room for a story to be told about the original Khan.
I say at least see the film before you make your judgements, because if I remember correctly people were up in arms when they heard late actor Heath Ledger was playing the Joker and everyone started comparing him to Jack Nicholson's performance in the Tim Burton films before they even saw The Dark Knight. Once that film came out and they saw Ledger's performance, everyone was kissing his ass.
Starring Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Cumberbatch, Alice Eve and Peter Weller, Star Trek Into Darkness is directed by J.J. Abrams and hits theaters May 15.
Check out a synopsis of the film below.
In the wake of a shocking act of terror from within their own organization, the crew of The Enterprise is called back home to Earth. In defiance of regulations and with a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads his crew on a manhunt to capture an unstoppable force of destruction and bring those responsible to justice.
As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.
