For the past four seasons of RuPaul's Drag Race, every queen not nailed down has released a single or two to keep their name out there in the gay press. One queen who I feel is attempting to take their career as a drag performer beyond lip-synching for their life in a dimly-lit gay club is none other than season 4 winner Sharon Needles, who is set to drop her debut album, titled PG-13 on January 29.
The 12-track album, which will be a mixture of punk, rock, and dance will come along with a Documentary and Limited Edition Book and features appearances by RuPaul, Amanda Lepore, Ana Matronic of the Scissor Sisters, punk rock legend Jayne County and Needles' partner (and upcoming season 5 contestant) Alaska Thunderfuck. Needles will also drop her first music video “This Club is a Haunted House” on January 29.
Here is what Needles, who wrote the entire album herself had to say about her forthcoming album: “This album has been titled PG-13 because like this vapid industry, life succeeds only in compromise,” she said. “In order for this world to work with me, you must meet me halfway.”
All I know is that Sharon better copyright all her shit because I guarantee you the thieves on Lady Gaga's payroll will be watching you closely for ideas. For more info, check out Sharon's tumblr page.
