I have been a fan of Neon Hitch's style and music for quite sometime, but like Wynter Gordon and Lolene if I don't hear enough about them on the musical front like when music from Gaga, Beyonce and Rihanna are shoved down our throats on a constant basis then they are bound to slip my mind.
Neon had one of the hottest songs last year called Fuck U Betta, which designer Andrew Christian used in one of his popular underwear videos, and she also performed at Logo's NewNowNext Awards (as well as some of your favorite gay clubs). Tired of her label continually shelving her debut album, like Lolene Neon opted to take her career into her own hands and has released a new EP called Happy Neon. The six-track EP was produced entirely by Neon and Happy Perez (Frank Ocean, Miguel), and while the album has a R&B/pop vibe (a female Frank Ocean maybe?), if you are expecting to hear a bunch of songs that sound like Fuck You Betta or Ass Back Home, you'll be sadly disappointed.
The sad part is with these bullshit 360 deals and the decline of the music industry, labels aren't interested in nurturing artists anymore. The only way you can be seen and heard as a musician in this country is A) launch your music career through a reality show (Tamar Braxton and most recently The Saturdays have capitalized off of this trend) or B) become an independent DIY artist (like Solange, Robyn, Dawn Richard and a few former major label legends who have decided to use their loyal fanbase to sell their music through their own websites and label).
Download the entire EP at the following link and be sure to check out one of the tracks called Midnight Sun below...
