Ever since Dawn smartly went solo after the short lives of Danity Kane and Dirty Money, she unleashed her EP's Armor On and Whiteout (which I am currently obsessed with). Now the singer has unleashed snippets of her debut album Goldenheart online, and based on what I heard it only solidifies her as a force to be reckoned with in the game right now. I also love the fact that she joined forces with an indie rather than sign her life away to a major with their ratchet 360 deal, because then they would have shelved her and sold her music to some lesser talented chick (like Rihanna) who is desperate to stay afloat as a singles artist who can't keep her clothes on.
“The last six years have been a battle for people to understand and conform me into what they really want me to be and I’ve kind of had to protect that throughout this whole journey,” said the former Dirty Money member. “It’s kind of the story of me protecting this Goldenheart, which really kind of symbolizes my own heart and my passion for this music thing and really who I am.”
I would really love to see Frank Ocean, Miguel, Dawn and Wynter Gordon go out on tour together, because I think they are the only ones right now stepping outside of the box to change the perception of R&B and electronic music.
Goldenheart will be out on January 15.
