And the list just keeps on growing. Just days after Jodie Foster's odd Golden Globes acceptance speech where she kinda sorta came out as a lesbian, actor Victor Garber, best known for playing Jennifer Garner's dad on Alias and currently stars in Jennfier Garner's hubby's (Ben Affleck for those of you who live under a rock) new movie Argo and on the new NBC series Deception quietly came out as a gay man to blogger Greg Hernandez in an interview on the site Greg In Hollywood.
In a post published yesterday, Hernandez writes that he met Garber last week at the TV Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, Calif. He asked Garber about a Wikipedia entry that said he is partnered with a man, artist Rainer Andreesen, with whom he lives in New York's West Village. “I wondered if that’s something public, that you’ve confirmed,” Hernandez said to Garber.
“He seemed surprised by the question but said: ‘I don’t really talk about it but everybody knows,’” Hernandez writes. “Garber then added: ‘He’s going to be out here with me for the SAG Awards.’”
Victor Garber has been nominated for four Tony awards and six Emmy's, and has starred in Legally Blonde, Titanic, Milk, The Town, Godspell and Will & Grace. Garber is right by saying he's never hidden his sexuality from the public. Like Foster, Matt Bomer, Zachary Quinto, Chris Colfer, Matt Dallas and too many to mention, I had heard for years that Victor Garber was gay. I'm just loving the fact that the list of queer actors is getting longer where people don't care. I just wish there were a few brave A-listers who make action films or play the lead in romantic comedies would do the same. I just don't think they will because they love the money too much so why risk it? So it's much easier if someone who is a character actor to have a successful career out of the closet because they aren't a big risk on major Hollywood studios.
