TERMINATOR REBOOT IS ON THE HORIZON

After the mess that was T4 (Christian Bale was definitely miscast as John Connor and the story felt like it should have been Sam Worthington's story rather than a continuation of the story of John fighting the machines) and Sarah Connor Chronicles never got the chance to be as great as it could have been, it looks like there is a Terminator reboot in the works.

Deadline is reporting that that Megan Ellison has purchased the rights ($20 million to be exact) for Terminator, and has brought in her brother, David Ellison, and his Skydance Films to help develop the a possible fifth sequel. Megan and David are the children of billionaire Oracle founder Larry Ellison, and new copyright laws allow for North American rights to The Terminator to revert back to creator James Cameron in 2019. So if they fuck up his franchise the fanboys sitting behind their computers can't blame him.

Skydance Films is partnered with Paramount Pictures, and has had a hand in producing action-packed popcorn films like Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol and Jack Reacher, and the upcoming summer films Star Trek Into Darkness and G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

So far there is no writer or director attached, but after rumblings that Arnold was attached at one point and then dropped out, as well as Fast & Furious helmer Justin Lin, but they've both since moved on to other projects.

Since I'm starting to think the only way they can get Arnold to do the crazy stunts he did back in the early years of his career is by doing to him what they did to Jeff Bridges and juxtapose a younger version of himself on the body of a physical actor.   I actually wish James Cameron would have bought back the rights and helmed another sequel instead of worrying about making two more Avatar movies. I wasn't a fan of the first Avatar, but I would love to see what he could do with another film (Cameron is always at the cutting-edge of technology when it comes to action movies). As for people I would love to see possibly replace Arnold (if he doesn't come back) as a new Terminator is Manu Bennett from Spartacus or Dwayne Johnson. You definitely need a guy who is muscular and can do action to play those roles, but as for a new John Connor I can't really think of anyone besides maybe Ben Foster who I think would make a better John Connor. Or maybe even Chronicle star Dane DeHaan (who was just cast as Harry Osbourne in The Amazing Spider Man 2). Christian Bale was giving us Bruce Wayne in T4 and I don't want to see that mistake played out again in another film.
