PUBLIC ENEMY TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE 2013 ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME

Public Enemy, Rush, Heart, Randy Newman, Donna Summer, and Albert King have been announced as the people who will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2013. In addition to the inductees, awards will also be presented to producers Quincy Jones and Lou Adler.

The ceremony-concert will take place at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles next April., with the actual concert airing on HBO in May.

"It made my mom happy, so that's worth it," Rush's Geddy Lee told Rolling Stone. "It's a terrific honour and we'll show up smiling."

Here's what Rush had to say, who have been eligible since 1999. "It took us so long to even get on the ballot," Lee said. "It's something I had absolutely nothing to do with and had no control over." Some of the other inductees have also been waiting for a while: King has been eligible since 1988, Newman, since 1991, and Summer since 2000. Unfortunately, some of the inductions will be posthumous – King, a blues guitarist, died in 1992, and Summer passed away in May.

I don't get why Kraftwerk, who would have been the institution's first all-synthesiser act wasn't nominated, as well as Chic, the Meters, Procol Harum and Deep Purple. First of all there would be no Rush if it weren't for Deep Purple, so they missed out on a good thing by looking over them. It just goes to show that the RRHF is no different than all these other shows that give awards and accolades to their peers.
