MADONNA HAS HIGHEST-GROSSING TOUR OF 2012

Britney may be the biggest moneymaker of 2012 in regards to female pop stars, but it cannot be denied that when it comes to touring, Madonna is the Queen of the stage.

Billboard has the deets, and Madonna reigns supreme with the highest-earning concert tour in 2012, bringing in a whopping $228 million from 72 live concerts. Back in 2009 on her Sticky 7 Sweet Tour, Madonna brought in $500 million. Bruce Springsteen came in second, while Coldplay, Lady Gaga, and the Jay-Z-Kanye West joint tour all placed in the Top 10.

Even though Girl Gone Wild was the only hit off of her ‘MDNA’ album, the thing that Madonna has mastered is making people love her lesser-known tracks in concert, which may be the reason why all of her shows were sold out. She performed in front of 1.63 million fans on the tour and made $3 million per show, outpacing veteran rock acts Springsteen and Roger Waters, who rounded out the top three.

The Michael Jackson Cirque du Soleil tour ranked fourth with $147 million, just ahead of Coldplay, who also earned $147 million from 67 shows on their extensive Mylo Xyloto Tour. The Brit rockers performed for 1.8 million fans, second only to Springsteen’s 2.1 million. Despite not releasing any new music in 2012, and all of her shows not packing in the crowds like the MDNA tour, Lady "I Hate Money" Gaga made more than $124 million from 65 shows to rank in sixth place. Kanye and Jay-Z came in ninth with $46 million.

Justin Bieber (No. 20) and Taylor Swift (No. 24) both placed further down the list, but that’s only because they didn’t perform as many concerts as the others. Bieber earned $30 million from 29 live performances, while Swift earned $26 million from 21 shows. Both performers figure to rank much higher in 2013, when they have lengthy tours planned.

People can say whatever they want about Madonna being a has-been and makes comments about her age, but one thing that cannot be denied that here is someone who is over the age of 35 who is still making an impact and changing the game when it comes to setting the bar on stage performances. Hands-down Madonna is the biggest touring female artist in the world, and so many wish they could be on her level as to making the kind of money she makes, especially since touring is where the real money is - not in record sales. So Madonna could put out 10 more crappy records until she's 85 (I hope she doesn't put out crappy records, but I'm just saying that to make a point) and people will still see her perform because when it comes to putting on a memorable show, no one has Madonna beat.
