KE$HA'S DIE YOUNG PULLED FROM RADIO OVER CONNECTICUT SHOOTING CONTROVERSY

The wounds are still fresh from the unfortunate school massacre that happened on Friday in Connecticut, and instead of people dealing with the layers of issues at hand (like mental illness in this country, how civilians are able to get their hands on semi-automatic weapons, the media sensationalizing killers and turning them into celebrities, etc.), the answer seems to be let's go after celebrities and songs that have to do with death and suicide.

Songs that have been pulled from radio are Foster The People's Pumped Up Kicks, which features the lyrics “All the other kids with the pumped up kicks / You better run, better run, outrun my gun … better run faster than my bullet,” and Ke$ha's Die Young, which chorus features the line, “We’re gonna die young.”

Die Young has dropped off radio requests since the sad shooting that has left 20 children dead, and Ke$ha took to Twitter to say that she understands “why my song is now inappropriate,” but says even though she is credited along with  Dr. Luke, Lukasz Gottwald, Henry Walter, Benjamin Levin, and fun. singer Nate Ruess as a writer on the track, she didn't want to record the song from the beginning.

“I had my very own issue with ‘die young’” for this reason,” she wrote. ”I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO.”

I actually think the claim that you were forced to write and sing a song called Die Young, when the song was all over radio before the shooting happened is bullshit. The song has nothing to do with what happend in Connecticut. The song is about living life to the fullest without a care in the world, and not about going into a school and shooting a bunch of little kids. Die young...leave a beautiful corpse. I feel if you write a song called Die Young and promote it all over radio stations, a train car in Japan, and on numerous singing shows, talk shows and award shows, you need to stand behind your promotions. Unless what Ke$ha is telling us is she's no different than the current pop puppets dominating the music charts --that she has no say in what type of music she puts out. Maybe it's time you move on to another single anyways, especially since Die Young sounds no different than your songs from your Animal and Cannibal CD's.

I just think what pisses me off is that a small group of idiots who can't comprehend the realities of the world always get what they want but people like myself with actual common sense have to suffer when songs we like or movies that I know are simply that have to get edited or removed because of some copycat asshole desperate for attention. We need to deal with how our government uses violence to solve world problems and our sensationalizing violence (but making sex, love and showing any kind of emotion something to be ashamed of) as well as the fact that we continue to sweep the deep dark elephant in the room called mental illness under the rug.
