JET MAGAZINE FEATURES IT'S FIRST GAY WEDDING
If you are gay and black, then you know that we have a long way to go in regards to inclusion within the LGBT community. I could go on about homophobia and the black church, and the fact that some black families have a hard time accepting that black gays actually exist within our community, but it seems JET Magazine is about to make history that will tittilate some, but of course piss off some others.
I am happy to report that the long-running magazine has placed it's first ever same-sex wedding couple in their recent issue. While we still have a long way to go with acceptance within our own community as well as finding the strength to accept ourselves, the wedding of Ravi Perry and Paris Prince goes to show that black gay couples have finally arrived and I think that's a great thing. Now if we can stop the self-hatred and bible-thumping bullshit within our own community whenever gay black couples are shown in a positive light, then as a people we can progress beyond the self-hatred.
