Last week Walt Disney Pictures announced that a third TRON movie is currently in the works, and now comes exciting news from NextMovie that my new Hollywood crush Garrett Hedlund will reprise his role as Sam Flynn.
In the 2010 film, Hedlund played the son of the original TRON's Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges). Hedlund, who soon stars as Dean Moriarty in Walter Salles' On the Road with Kristen Stewart, previously reprised the role for a brief short on the TRON: Legacy DVD and Blu-ray release.
So far no word on what the actual plot of the next film will be, but I did hear that it may involve an exploration of life and death in the digital realm.
Previously drafted by David DiGilio, Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, the third TRON adventure will again be directed by Joseph Kosinski with a rewrite by Jesse Wigutow.
This is exciting news because I am a huge fan of TRON: Legacy and I thought Garrett was good in his role. Even though I know TRON came out before The Matrix, the latter film set the bar when it came to cool action, a great story and groundbreaking special effects. The set designs and special effects were awesome in TRON: Legacy as well as the music. All they need to do for the third film is work on giving us a stronger story an cool action scenes, and the next film may set the bar for other sci fi films to follow. Now all they need to do is bring back Olivia Wilde as Quorra and Daft Punk (who are still working their latest album)on music a good time will be had by all.
