AURAL ORGASM: TAMAR BRAXTON - LOVE & WAR
On last night's episode of Tamar & Vince, the hit reality spinoff starring Tamar Braxton and her manager husband Vincent Herbert. The first season focused on Tamar acting a fool while working on her debut album and coming up with the Tamar brand.
For those of you who don't know the story of how Tamar got her own show, here's the tea. It all started when the WEtv offered Toni Braxton, a once-hot 90's R&B singer her own reality show, which became Braxton Family Values. BFV starred Toni and her sisters Trina, Towanda, Tracy and Tamar (and occasionally Toni's parents Evelyn and Michael). The show proved to be a huge success and Toni's (who was barelyo n both seasons to begin with) sisters were not only fun to watch, but they were basically the Kardashians with talent. But after BFV season 1, it turned out that Toni wasn't the sister that became the household name - that title would go to younger sister Tamar. Once upon a time Tamar dropped a self-titled solo album in the early 2000's that in one of her many show 'isms "was not hot."
Tamar spent many years after that out of the spotlight until this reality show came along. Now that she's the breakout star of the show, she smartly used the opportunity to branch out with her own reality show and use her infamy to revive her singing career. With the help of her hubby Vince (who manages artists like Lady Gaga and Mindless Behavior) and a team of choreographers, a glam squad, some hit producers and her long time vocal coach, Tamar is ready to set the world on fire with her music.
Last night during the season finale Tamar debuted her new single Love & War at a album showcase and today the song is already at #1 on the iTunes charts. That's pretty fast considering that the song is less than 24 hours old. I wouldn't be surprised that since Vince manages Lady Gaga (who is his biggest moneymaking client) he used her power over her "little monsters" to get them to buy his wife's single. She mentioned the song on Twitter and you know whenever Gaga mentions something on the social media site her fans lose their damn minds. My next guess is that if Vince wants people to buy Tamar's full album, he'll probably send her (who also provided background vocals on Gaga's Born This Way) out on tour with Gaga as her opening act. Personally speaking I would have preferred the uptempo Hot Sugar (another song she performed at her showcase) to be the first single instead of the typical R&B sounds of Love & War, but I'm not the one managing her career. At this point it doesn't really matter because Tamar has her first #1.
