After the first season of Smash failed to find it's footing, the writers and producers went back to the drawing board to rework the show. Show creator Theresa Rebeck was let go and replaced with Executive Producer Josh Safran (Gossip Girl - back when the show was watchable) and they got rid of four characters from the show, including the annoying assistant Ellis.
New additions to Smash include Broadway stars Jeremy Jordan (Newsies), Andy Mientus (Spring Awakening), Nikki Blonsky (Hairspray), Krysta Rodriguez (The Addams Family), Jesse L. Martin (Rent, Law & Order) and theater legend Liza Minnelli. Also joining the cast is Sean Hayes (Will & Grace) and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, the latter who will be competing with Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee's characters for the role of Marilyn Monroe in the Broadway show Bombshell. Another major change to the show is it's timeslot. it originally aired on Mondays but now it's been moved to Tuesdays for its second season. The two-hour second season premiere will air on Feb. 5 at 9 p.m. and will move to it's regular time slot at 10 p.m. on Feb. 12.
The new season definitely looks promising and I have to say February can't get here fast enough!
