STARZ EYEING SPARTACUS SPINOFF

I am a huge fan of the STARZ series Spartacus with their 300-esque action sequences, hot sex scenes and their pro-gay storylines. I was bummed after the series lost their original Spartacus Andy Whitfield to cancer, and with the final season airing in January, Deadline is reporting that there is a spinoff in the works centering on Roman leader Gaius Julius Caesar.

The character, played by Australian actor Todd Lasance, will be introduced in Spartacus: War of the Damned. Even though there is no evidence that Caesar had any involvement in the campaign to put down the Spartacus-led slave rebellion, it's a storyline they are going with on the show. The spinoff, which will be put together by executive producer Rob Tapert and creator/executive producer Steven DeKnight, will  feature a young Caesar who is yet to begin his ascent toward ruling the Roman state.

Spartacus: War of the Damned, premieres Jan. 25.
