RICKY MARTIN LEAVING EVITA IN JANUARY

Attention all Ricky Martin Fans: You have until the end of January to get your tickets to see him in Evita on Broadway, because come February he will be stepping down as Che.

According to the shows producers Hal Luftig and Scott Sanders, Argentine actress Elena Roger, who stars as Eva Perón, and Michael Cerveris, who plays Juan Perón, will also be leaving the cast.
Martin, who was also just named "Sexiest Man on Broadway" in a Broadway.com poll, received mixed reviews when the show opened last April. While many critics have said that they had a diffcult time seeing Martin get lost in the role as Che and not performing as himself on stage, you can't deny that his hardcore fans are what made Evita a hit. The show broke the Broadway weekly box office sales record after only six performances. It has broken its own record six times since, earning $1,586,362 for eight consecutive performances.
"Evita 1 of the most amazing cycles of my career," Martin tweeted this morning. "Discipline and growth…Thanks so much for your applause."
Martin, who played Spanish teacher David Martinez on the TV show "Glee," will also star in his own series for NBC/Universal's Universal Television. He's also planning to get back in the studio to work on some new music (please let it be a dance record) and wants to write a children's book.
The actors who will replace Martin, Rogers and Cerveris will be announced soon. but their last day in Evita will be on January 26.
