OUT RELEASES 18th ANNUAL OUT 100 LIST

It's almost the end of the year so you know what that means --- Out Magazine has unleashed it's Out 100 list. The long-running magazine has also revealed not one, but four different covers -- featuring Jane Lynch (The Entertainer), Boy George (The Legend), Sharon Needles (The Stylemaker) and Andrew Rannells (The Ingenue).

Other honorees include Elton John and his husband David Furnish (#13), trans model and designer Isis King (#54), HuffPost Gay Voices Editor-at-Large Michelangelo Signorile (#66), New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and her wife Kim Catullo (#52), actor Michael Urie (#2) and 14 LGBT members of the Obama-Biden administration.

While I love the fact that Boy George (who paved the way for so many young queens to do what they are doing today in pop music and on television) made the list, just like People's Sexiest Man Alive issue I was quite irritated by the lack of black people featured. There are a few up and coming musicians of color mentioned like raper Le1f, Shannon Funchess from the dance duo Light Asylum and drag queen rapper Mykki Blanco, but regardless if Frank Ocean hasn't officially said he was gay, he should have gotten a cover also or even a mention in the magazine. Just by admitting that his first love was with someone of the same sex opened up a dialogue within the hip hop.r&B community that has never been talked about before. It also sparked a few mainstream rappers and singers coming out in support of Frank.

All those years Anderson Cooper was deep in the glass closet Out featured him on their list numerous times and in the new issue Mika (who recently came out after denying he was gay) makes the top 10 even though his new album and his latest music videos never features same-sex love scenes. There is a new generation of kids coming out who don't live by the old rules of hiding in the closet and I feel that Out (as well as other mainstream LGBT entertainment branches) needs to start embracing all kinds of people instead of sticking only with their mainstream homos.
