A few months back when Madonna was performing her MDNA tour overseas, the pop icon got into a bit of trouble for promoting homosexuality in her show in St. Petersburg and endourcing jailed Russian punk band Pussy Riot. To gain some attention in the press an anti-gay group decided to sue the singer for $10 million after they claimed Madonna was trying to "corrupt" the Russian youth by celebrating equality among the LGBT community.
Here's what the AP had to say about the ludicrous one day lawsuit hearing which was eventually thrown out:
The ruling came after a one-day hearing that bordered on the farcical. During it, plaintiffs claimed that Madonna's so-called "propaganda of perversion" would negatively affect Russia's birthrate and erode the nation's defense capability by depriving the country of future soldiers. At one point, the judge threatened to expel journalists from the courtroom if they laughed too much.
Ever the sore losers, the anti-gay group recently stated that they still believe Madonna should be punished for having beliefs different than their own: "We believe there was a case of the breach of law, namely gay propaganda among minors," said Darya Dedova.
I love when people only want to protect the youth when it's convenient for their own personal agenda. In the words of Madonna during her Drowned World Tour, "fuck off motherfuckers!"
