LL COOL J REVEALS AUTHENTIC HIP HOP ALBUM COVER AND TRACKLIST

It's been five long years since the G.O.A.T.-turned actor LL Cool J has released new music since parting ways with longtime label Def Jam. Now the hip hop legend, who can currently be seen on the hit CBS series NCIS: Los Angeles has unleashed the official album cover and tracklisting for his 14th album Authentic Hip-Hop on February 12, which he says he is dedicating to his loyal fans:

“I’m not trying to compete with 17-year-olds on the radio, but I am talking directly to the folks who came up with me,” LL tells ESSENCE. “We may not be teenagers anymore, but we do still like to have fun.”

I'm actually glad that there is finally a artist of a certain age that knows his legendary status and doesn't need to be greedy and compete for an audience that may not be familiar with his place in hip hop history. LL is making music because he loves hip hop and those who want to ride with him can do so. The album, his first since 2008’s Exit 13, has already spawned the singles “Ratchet” and “Take It” featuring Joe.

Sidebar: Since he is no longer with Def Jam, I do wonder if he will try to find another label to release his album, or will he go for more of an independent distribution approach a la Dawn Richard?
