CALVIN HARRIS TALKS RIHANNA, LADY GAGA BACKLASH AND LEONA LEWIS
Scottish DJ Calvin Harris may be a rising beatmaker and songwriter in the U.S., but he's also known for saying it like he means it. After taking some heat from Lady Gaga's fans for dissing the singer's music, Calvin, who released his new album 12 Months this week opened up in a few overseas interviews about working with Rihanna, his feud with Gaga, and the recent shade thrown by Leona Lewis who says she originally recorded the global smash We Found Love before Calvin decided to give it to RiRi.
On The Backlash He Received After He Said He Turned Down A Remixing Gig For Lady Gaga Because He Was Busy And Doesn't Really Like Her Music: “[I was] a bit surprised because it had been on Wikipedia for four years,” he said. “And I didn’t say anything bad.” Rather than how it was framed, Harris said, he just “didn’t have time to do a remix — which frequently happens with all sorts of people. It’s not really a problem. Something was taken the wrong way, or it was reported again, four years later, in the wrong way.” Welp, that settles that.
On Leona Lewis' Claims That Her Version of We Found Love Is Better: “They’re very different because she sings it dead softly, you know, how Leona sings. It’s more like an X Factor ballad.” Is it wrong that we’re dying to hear it?
On Why He Has No Songs On Rihanna's Upcoming Unapologetic Album: “You go into the studio and you’re like, ‘I need to sit here and I’ve got two days to make probably one of the best records that I’ll ever make in my life,’” Harris explained. “Obviously I didn’t do anything, so I’m not on the record. I did a decent tune, but you can’t work under that kind of pressure. I can’t, anyway.”
Leona always sounds dead inside when she sings, so that was the ultimate shade Calvin Harris threw in her direction. None of us have heard Leona's version but personally I like Rihanna's better and can't imagine anyone else doing it better. I lookat Rihanna as a walking reality competition show, in regards of putting music together. You have 24 hours to put together a hot track for her to sing over so she can release a new album every six months instead of taking the time to create magic in the studio. Rihanna is a big star and has built an empire in a short amount of time, but she seriously needs to slow down.
As for Gaga, I don't get what the backlash was about either. If producers don't have the time or want to work with certain people, they have the right to turn down songs if they choose. People need to chill the fuck out and allow people to work their business out behind the scenes like they're supposed to and stop taking their business to Twitter. There is a such thing as a private message link on the site.
Just make music and leave all the stupid feuding for aging hip hop and reality stars.
