Here's some jood (for those not familiar it means better than good) news from author James Earl Hardy. Word on the street is that the iconic book B-Boy Blues is heading to the stage. Check out a statement from his Facebook page below...
It's official: The theatrical version of B-Boy Blues has been accepted into the 2013 Downtown Urban Theater Festival! The performance will take place in late February/early March in New York. So get those bios/reels/vid clips ready: I will announce the cast list and audition date the first week in December. Pooquie & Little Bit are finally coming to the stage!!!
This is great news for some of you thespians out there looking to stretch your acting chops, and I have to say the story of Pooquie and Little Bit has been a long time coming beyond the pages of the iconic book. I remember when I was just coming out in my teens in the late 90's a friend of mine loaned me B Boy Blues and to this day I hold it as one of the best books I have ever read. It was the first time I got to witness first hand real love between two black men and it also inspired me as a writer. I know we still ahve a long way to go in regards to seeing something of Tyler Perry porportions (our own movie studio and self-financing of urban, LGBT stage plays) for our community, but I've got my fingers crossed that one day we will also see B-Boy Blues on the big screen.
