I am shocked by the news that drag diva and RuPaul's Drag Race season 2 contestant Sahara Davenport has passed away. She was 27-years-old. Sahara graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance before she moved from from Dallas to New York City, where her drag career soon took off. Not only has Sahara been a staple in the drag community, but she has also been featured on a few TV programs including One Life To Live. She has released a few singles including Pump With Me and most recently Go Off and the Go Off remix EP. She is survived by her longtime boyfriend Karl Westerberg (Manila Luzon) who was a contestant on the third season of Drag Race.
No word on the cause of death, but I will keep you guys posted on the latest news. Sahara was one of the sweetest queens and personalities, and you will be sorely missed. My prayers go out to you and the Davenport family.
UPDATE: Hours after the unfortunate news of Sahara's passing, both RuPaul and Logo released statements.
Says RuPaul via Twitter: "Shocked & heartbroken over Sahara Davenport. Never occurred to me that we'd ever lose one of my girls. I see them as immortal"
Here is LOGO's statement: “Logo is profoundly saddened by the passing of Antoine Ashley who fans around the world knew and loved as Sahara Davenport. He was an amazing artist and entertainer who’ll be deeply missed by his Logo family. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family, especially his boyfriend Karl, in their time of need.”
