While I have to say I was very disappointed in Transformers 3, apparently the film made enough money to guarantee another sequel. Michael Bay, who claimed he would not return after directing all three films has decided to direct the fourth installment, and is looking for a new male lead to replace Shia LaBeouf, who now wants to be a serious actor. There have been a few names being thrown around (such as Jason Statham), but according to the site Twitch, actor Mark Wahlberg (Contraband, Ted) is in talks to play the new male lead. Wahlberg recently worked with Bay on a new film called Pain & Gain, which so far does not have a release date. Recently there were rumors floating around that the new film would feature a female lead who is dating a Texan racecar driver.
Bay says the film has a June 27, 2014 release date and Ehren Kruger will write the screenplay. It's alleged that the storyline will take place in outer space with a brand new cast of both humans and robots.
Here's what Michael Bay posted on his website: "The Mark Wahlberg T4 rumor is just a rumor. Mark and I are talking about another film project. -Michael"
