NICOLE SCHERZINGER SAYS SHE SANG MOST OF THE VOCALS ON THE PCD RECORDS
Last night on Behind The Music, pop singer Nicole Scherzinger sat down to talk about her days in the group Pussycat Dolls and her non-existant solo career. In the interview Nicole revealed that she suffered from bulimia among other topics, but what really had some folks clutching their pearls is that Nicole claims to have been the sole force behind the group. Nicole claims that she came up with the songs and sang 95% of the front and background vocals.
On Her Battle With Bulimia:
“It’s embarrassing. I never spoke about it. Like I said, I never want to play a victim, and I never wanted my family to hear about things from me because I think it would break their heart, you know. I guess it was like my addiction, right? I never did drugs, but kinda doing things to myself was my addiction. It’s like when I got off stage, I was on this high, and I’d come back to my room and I’d be alone, so I would just do things. My bulimia was my addiction; hurting myself was my addiction.
“[I] did it every day for, like, years. Every time I had a second to be alone, I was doing something to myself. You get, like, blisters on your hands or scars on your hands, and I’d try to hide those. I think the girls could tell.”
On Coming Up With The Music For PCD: “I hope I don’t get in trouble for the stuff that I say but I’ll never forget I finished the album, PCD, and [executive producer] Ron [Fair] and I brought the girls into the studio and we played it for them. It was the first time they’d ever heard the music. Do you understand what I’m saying? We played the album for the Pussycat Dolls. It was the first time they’d ever heard the songs.”
Producer Ron Fair co-signed to Nicole's Claims That She Was The Face of PCD, which include Melody Thornton, Ashley Roberts, Kimberly Wyatt, Jessica Sutta and Carmit Bachar:
“Melody sang a bit here and there, but the records were Nicole, with the exception of an occasional ad-lib.”
I don't know why this is a surprise, especially if you watch the music videos or ever saw any of their live performances and it was obvious that Nicole was in the forefront. I never heard any of the girls truly stand out vocally on their two albums, except Melody did have a few lines or two on Doll Domination.
It's easier to put the blame on Nicole as being the diva of the group, but like I said with Nicki and Mariah the only one the girls should have gotten pissed at would be PCD svengali Robin Antin. She's the one who put them all together and manufactured the ladies into who they were at the time. If Nicole was allegedly requesting her own bus and to be separated from the other girls, they should have voiced their opinion to Robin who I feel was loving the drama. I'll even go as far as to call Robin the Kim D (Real Housewives of NJ reference) of the music industry. Since Nicole's music fares better overseas than in the U.S., maybe she needs to take a page out of Kylie's handbook and when she comes to the U.S. after selling out arenas across the pond, she needs to perform at smaller venues to grow her American audience.
