NE-YO SAYS LADY GAGA WILL NOT STAND THE TEST OF TIME

When you think of timeless musicians, people like Michael Jackson, Prince, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Madonna immediately come to mind. R&B singer/songwriter/producer NeYo, who has been pretty outspoken lately when it comes to his opinions on music and the music business may have said something that may be true to the most of us, but will spark a fight with a certain singer's delusional "little monsters."

While Lady Gaga bas spent the last four years making a career out of using every gimmick lesser known artists have been doing before her to remain relevant as a pop star, NeYo was asked by the UK’s Daily Star who he thinks will be the next timeless pop star.
Here's what he said: "Everybody thought it was going to be Lady GaGa, but where is she right now, what’s going on with her? ”Not to take anything away from her because she’s ridiculously talented, but artists who stand the test of time – you just don’t see those any more."

Also in the interview NeYo, who has been hired as Senior Vice President of A&R at Motown, revealed that he is on a mission to revive R&B, which has been sitting on creative life support in favor or Euro dance/pop:

"Motown wants to breathe fresh air into R&B, but Motown was not always cutting edge, it was soulful but good pop music too. They were always at the top of the charts in the 60s, and today the lines are getting blurred again with R&B artists doing dance and pop acts doing R&B. I feel now it’s just about good music again. Motown needs to stand for quality music, period."

Before some of you out there quickly throw shade, I do think Gaga is a pretty good singer and she definitely has a way to get people to talk about her, but I have to agree those timeless pop stars who were all influenced by some of the greats but would take their influences to the next level doesn't seem to exist anymore. It seems some of the mainstream performers are all about working hard but not really taking the time to let those creative juices flow. Lady Gaga's mistake was allowing the crazy costumes and the studio gimmicks to overshadow her talent as a singer. Only time will tell if Gaga (who is currently on a world tour) can create a movement with her so-called "ARTPOP" album, but since there was too much hype and not enough bite on the "Born This Way" record, we shall see if she can actually bring it like it needs to be brought and save the gimmicks for the stage.
