JERSEY SHORE SEASON PREMIERE SUFFERS HUGE RATINGS DIP
It looks like MTV made the right decision to give it's beloved reality series Jersey Shore it's final season, because based on the ratings it looks as if viewers are over their antics as well.
While the sixth season's two hour season premiere brought in 4.7 million viewers and a 2.5 rating among adults 18-49, it suffered a 38 percent drop from the last season opener in January (which brought in 7.5 million viewers).
While that may seem bad for the major networks, 4.7 is good for basic cable. It should also be noted that the premiere was up against viewings of the NFL. It also beat all of broadcast offerings in the demo, though it did tie CBS' Elementary. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the second episode which aired at 11 p.m. brought in 8.7 million total viewers -- and with encores, the show attracted 11.96 million total viewers.
Channels like MTV tend to run their shows into the ground with repeat airings, so if something happens to be on at the time you can always catch the rerun (which is exactly what I did). Also after watching the two hour premiere I definitely felt in my gut that the right decision was made to end the show.
