Some of you may not be familiar with the name Icona Pop, but I'm sure you've been hearing their music in the clubs and on TV. The Swedish indie electro-pop-punk duo had a huge summer breakout hit in the U.S. called I Love It, which was also the theme song for the Jersey Shore spinoff show Snooki & JWOWW.
The ladies who currently reside in New York and are also DJ's have been snatched up by Big Beat Records (home to such dance acts like Skrillex, Metronomy, Chromeo and Martin Solveig), and will release a new EP called Iconic on October 16. The ladies will also head out on a North American tour with Marina and the Diamonds.
I definitely dig Icona Pop's music, and while these lifeless mainstream pop acts continue to ruin dance music by giving us generic music produced by the same four rotating producers (you know who you are), I will continue to listen to my Swedish imports like Icona Pop, Robyn, Alphabeat, etc., who aren't afraid to push the boundaries of dance music.
