GMA ANCHOR SAM CHAMPION COMES OUT;ANNOUNCES ENGAGEMENT

For years it was unspoken knowledge that New York weatherman turned Good Morning America personality Sam Champion was one of the kids. Hell, I used to run into him for many summers on Fire Island. Well yesterday he made two announcements to those 1% in middle America who had no idea. The first announcement was that he's gay. The second part that is definitely the shocker is that he's engaged  to his longtime partner Rubem Robierb.

The tea was spilled by The New York Times, when Sam announced his engagement to the paper while attending MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts' wedding to Patrick Abner on Sept. 29 in New York. “We’re getting married New Year’s Eve in Miami,” Champion, 51, told the Times.

Added Robierb, a Brazilian-born photographer: “We’ll do it [in New York] officially, and then have a party in Miami.”

While it was definitely an open secret in the industry, this is Sam's first subtle acknowledgement of his sexuality.

The ABC News blog quoted Champion as saying, “We are thrilled and so excited and thank everyone for their good wishes."

Congrats to you Sam. While I am loving this current trend of celebrities subtlely revealing their same sex attractions, at this point I'm so sick of the obvious ones coming out of the closet. If someone like say Jason Statham came out as gay then I would be shocked. Until then I don't see why the obvious ones always have to state the obvious.
