USHER & SHAKIRA TO REPLACE CHRISTINA AGUILERA AND CEE LO ON THE VOICE
When you tune into the fourth season of The Voice in 2013, expect to see some big changes at the judges table. Producers of the show have hired Usher and Shakira to fill in for Cee Lo and Christina Aguilera during the spring season of the hit series. The reasoning is now that The Voice will air twice a year instead of once, having new judges in the seat will allow artists like Xtina and Cee Lo to focus on their albums Lotus and Cee Lo's Magic Moment as well as touring duties.
“Having award-winning artists as coaches means they need to be able to tour,” said executive producer Mark Burnett (via EW). “Whether in the red chair or on tour, our coaches have their chairs for life. This is exactly why, after three seasons, we needed to allow them to rotate out so they can get on the road amongst their fans. Meanwhile, we’re incredibly excited to have singular artists like Usher and Shakira joining the fold.”
Here's what Aguilera had to say about her decision to temporarily leave the show: “Since this year NBC and ‘The Voice’ have decided to tape back-to-back seasons, requiring a full-year commitment, it is important for me to take season four off, allowing me to support my music that my fans have been waiting for—with the release of my new album Lotus on November 13,” she said.
And here's what Cee Lo had to say about his decision to take a season off to promote his Christmas album and Vegas show: “I’m highly enthusiastic about focusing my undivided attention on my additional endeavors and interests like my upcoming solo album, new Goodie Mob album, Las Vegas residency Loberace, new memoir, and new NBC comedy,” said the “Fuck You” singer. “It’s great to also give a host of other talent the chance to experience what a joy it is to be part of what is truly the best show of them all, ‘The Voice’! I will return for season five and will be watching season four. NBC is home and as far as Usher and Shakira are concerned—’mi casa su casa’.”
I think it's a great idea to switch up the mentors every now and again. It keeps the show fresh (something AI has failed to do with it's current ine up of loonies), and being that Usher has said that his primary concern is for his boys, doing a show like The Voice allows him to stay in one area and make some money without having to drag his kids all over the world on tour. Also, since Shakira is working on a new dance album doing a show like The Voice will help revive her career in the States. I'm actually excited to see what they will bring to the table during the Spring season.
