SOLANGE STAGES COMEBACK WITH NEW ALBUM
I know all the jokes about Solange being a basement baby or being the irrelevant Knowles sister can be pretty funny at times, but one thing that I have to say about her is that I actually like her music more than I like Beyonce's. Solange has also been the one who has taken the biggest fashion risks (something her big sister recently started doing). I totally get that when your sister is more famous than you, you have to find ways to step out of her shadow and let your voice be heard and doing things that are not seen as conventional is always a good start. beyonce is a mainstream pop star so she can't color outside of the lines like her sister can because Solange is not someone who sells out stadiums like Bey.
If you haven't heard her sophomore album, Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams, then you have no idea what you're missing. I had heard some rumblings that her third album was going to have more of a rock vibe, but recently the singer says her new material in four years will have more of a sexual vibe. Could it be her getting her freak on with boyfriend Alan Ferguson has influenced her music?
“I think I just finally started having good sex,” she revealed. “This woman came up to me the other day and said, ‘You know, I think people dress a lot better when they’re in love with themselves, with other people, or with where their life is.’”
She also had this to say about bing independent vs. a major label artist:
“I don’t think there’s a need [for a label] if you are able to fund it yourself and have a strong sense of development as an artist,” she explained. “It means you aren’t dependent on some A&R dude to position you with writers or producers or figure out your next direction. Major labels act as banks in terms of how they produce and release your album.”
The first single from her upcoming album is called “Losing You” and Solange will shoot the music video in Cape Town, South Africa. I'm hearing that the video will have a documentary-type vibe and will be produced by the same people who worked with Florence + The Machine!
