RUPERT EVERETT DEFENDS COMMENTS HE MADE ABOUT GAY DADS

A few days ago actor Rupert Everett came under fire for his negative comments in regards to gay people wanting to have children. The out actor said he feels that kids "need a father and a mother", adding, "(I) can't think of anything worse than being brought up by two gay dads."

of course a shitstorm soon followed by a plethora of gay rights activists coming at Rupert with their flaming torches and glittered pitchforks, and instead of retracting what he believes, he has opted to stand by his remarks.
He tells This Morning, "The good news on this is I'm not applying for any sort of public office. I don't want to be a MP, I don't want to be in a council, I don't want to be the head of (actors' union) Equity. I'm just an individual with my own life and the things I want to do myself.

"I'm not against anybody doing anything... I'm not one of those people who wants to say, 'Oh no, you can't do that, you have got to pull the clocks back'. Just I, personally, feel like that... I have loads of friends, gay friends, with children... I am not big into marriage, straight or gay, to be honest. I am very out of kilter with the rest of the world, I realise."

I don't agree with what Rupert is saying in regards to same-sex couples not being able to raise children, but I do give him props for standing behind his beliefs, no matter how far in the minority he is on them. While I do agree that marriage and kids aren't for everyone (gay or straight), I don't think you can say that kids are better off with parents of the opposite sex when in fact I know so many straight people who are lousy parents and neglect their children. Hell, I practically raised my goddaughter Jocelyn for 12 years until we went through a nasty court battle with her mother and her father, who was in the military was granted full custody. And I know lots of gay people who are wonderful parents. It's ignorant comments made by people such as Rupert that we not only have bigots in the straight world to worry about, but the self hatred that is alive and well within the gay community (but is too taboo to talk about). So unless statistics get better in regards to straight people being better parents to kids than gay people, Rupert's opinion is null in void.
