MOVIE BASED ON ICONIC CBGB TO BE RELEASED IN 2013

So the long in the waiting CBGB movie is finally in the can, and is coming soon to a theater near you!

The famous Lower East Side dive, which launched the careers of the Ramones, Blondie, the Patti Smith Group, Jayne Wayne County and Talking Heads tells the story of how the late Hilly Kristal offered his club's cramped stage to bands playing original songs. After the rent became too damn high, CBGC officially closed it's iconic doors in 2006.

In December 1973 it was actually transgender punk rock pioneer the former "Wayne" (who is now Jayne) County, who played there before other sites (cough Rolling Stone cough) decided to give Television (who played there a year later) all the credit. Jayne/Wayne may have been marginalized by the homophobic and transphobic NY rock scene in the early 70's, but she will not be denied the credit that she deserves for bringing attention to CBGB and putting 'rock on the Bowery' on the map by a bunch of fact-challenged reporters.

CBGB stars Malin Akerman (Watchmen) as Blondie's Debbie Harry; Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins as Iggy Pop; Rupert Grint (Harry Potter) as guitarist Cheetah Chrome of the Dead Boys,
Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory) as music manager Terry Ork, Mickey Sumner (The Borgias) as Patti Smith, Joel David Moore as Joey Ramone, Julian Acosta as Johnny Ramone, Steven Schub as Dee Dee Ramone, Evan Alex Cole will play Richard Hell, Caleb McCotter as Wayne County and Alan Rickman as Kristal.

The CBGB film, which was shot in Savannah, Georgia with initial filming done in Manhattan and on Kristal's New Jersey farm with a  $10 million budget will feature more than 40 songs. No word on which of your faves will make the cut due according to screenwriter Jody Savin, "some bands are more cooperative than others."

I say it's been a long time coming for this film, and hopefully it will revive a period of time when people didn't rely on auto tune and studio equipment to make music. We need a new generation of kids to pick up a guitar and a mic and fuck shit up. The way our country tide is turning, people are hungry for it! CBGB will be released sometime in 2013.
