MISSY ELLIOTT GIVES HER THOUGHTS ON THE NICKI GARBAJ/LIL KIM BEEF
We know it's been seven years since Missy Elliott released some new music (I already gave my opinion on the underwhelming singles 9th Inning and Triple Threat), so forgive her for being a little late to the party.
During an interview with MTV's RapFix, the hip hop veteran/visual genius weighed in on the Nicki Minaj/Lil Kim feud.
“I felt like that situation divided us,” Missy told Sway Calloway in an interview with MTV’s RapFix Live.
“She’s out there hustling, can’t be mad at that.”
Missy, who has known Kim for years refuses to choose sides in the matter and even has Kim on her new album: “Lil’ Kim is my sister. I’ve known her for years and I never turn my back on her,” said Missy.
Missy feels that women need to stop beefing with each other and instead band together: “There’s enough room for everybody. I wanna see everybody get it. I love to see women just have on their own. You watch the guys do it all the time. They go out on the road with each other, probably don’t like each other. Go on and get that money.”
“You don’t have to like somebody—just respect,” she added. “Once we get that, everybody I think will be great. I wish I could wave some kind of wand and make it happen, but I also am not in that situation to make it happen, to say do this and do that. I haven’t been in that situation to know what that is.”
Missy, who you may remember was a part of the 1997 ladies anthem "Not Tonight" with Kim, Angie Martinez, Da Brat and the late Left Eye hit back in 1997 also stated that she would like to put together an all female tour: “I try to support everybody—past, present, and future. I love my peers. Lil’ Kim is my sister, Eve is my sister, Trina, Roxanne Shanté, Salt-N-Pepa, Queen Latifah, Monie Love…”
I think that's Kim's issue with Nicki. It's not about if they will ever work together. She wants Nicki to show respect to an artist like Kim who paved the way for her to wear those atrocious clown outfits she wears whenever she's out in public. I feel there is room for different females to make it in this business, but the industry likes to make it as if there should be only one female rapper at a time. I would most definitely like to see an all female tour with artists such as Missy, Azealia Banks, Eve, Kim, Salt-N-Pepa, Lady of Rage, Trina, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte and too many others to mention.
