MEMPHITZ IS SUING LOVE & HIP HOP: ATLANTA OVER DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CLAIMS
It was only a matter of time before the shit officially hit the fan. The crazy antics of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta officially ended this past Monday, but if executive producer Mona Scott-Young thought she could take a moment to exhale from all the bafoonery, she better think again.
During the L&HH spin-off's first season, singer K. Michelle has repeatedly come out saying that she was physically abused by her industry boyfriend, to which co-star and rapper Rasheeda questioned whether or not the accusations were true because "he and the industry guy's wife are good friends of hers and he would never do such a thing." For the record K. Michelle never mentioned his name on the show, but the singer did openly reveal it was none other than Memphitz in a few radio interviews and even threw some shade at his wife, Toya Wright (aka Lil Wayne's babymama) on Twitter.
Now Memphitz has decided to file a lawsuit against Viacom International; NFGTC, Inc.; and Mona’s Monami Entertainment. He’s says that K. Michelle is lying about the domestic violence claims, and feels the show gave her a “worldwide platform” for her to “assassinate [his] character
Says Memphitz:
“My family and I have suffered tremendously while VH-1, Monami Ent., and the other companies provided a worldwide platform for K. Michelle to repeatedly assassinate my character. The filing of this suit is to compensate for the irreparable damage that has been done to my reputation and to deter these companies from doing such future harm to others.”
Memphitz's attorney has also said that K. Michelle is desperate for attention and has no proof of any abuse that went down when they were in a relationship:
“[K. Michelle] has taken full advantage of society’s tendency to accept claims of domestic violence as always being true, even in the absence of proof. The only abuse that actually occurred is the malicious and calculated pattern of vicious lies Ms. Pate has assailed for the purpose of fabricating a compelling story line in an attempt to ruin my client’s name.”
“Domestic violence is an issue of serious nature, often having grave consequences for true victims with whom we all sympathize. However, it is unconscionable for one to play on the sympathies of the masses by levying false accusations of such heinous acts against an innocent party, simply for the sake of entertainment or for purported career advancement. After reviewing the evidence in this matter, we are prepared to litigate this case to the fullest extent of the law to seek justice for our client and to restore his name and professional reputation.”
Maybe the proof was in the bruises she received at the hands of Memphitz while they were together, to which wounds heal. Emotional wounds are another story. K. Michelle has been talking aobut this since 2010, so now that her show is getting bigger ratings than Toya's canceled BET reality show you feel you are entitled to a piece of her pie? I'm curious to see how this plays out in court, but I had to seriously laugh when I heard that Memphitz wants $1 per viewer per show. Three million people watched the series and VH1 produced 10 episodes, and if he thinks he's walking away with $30 million dollars he's got another thing coming because Viacom will make sure he never sees that money.
