AVALON'S REVIEW: GARCON GARCON AT WESTGAY

On Tuesday night I took my butt over to Westgay and I have to say I had a good time. The fierce electro pop definitely got my ass shaking, the go go boys were hot (shout out to porn star Kennedy Carter who was dancing that night) and I loved taking advantage of the drink specials.

But the real reason why I was there was to see Australian synth pop duo Garçon Garçon, who were on the New York leg of their U.S. tour. I have been obsessed with them ever since they released their debut EP back in February, and they did not disappoint. The guys were really nice (thanks to my friend SIRPAUL for introducing me to the guys) and I spoke to Nathan Mahon who told me that if I needed anything in regards of an interview or promotion of their music to let him know. I think I will take him up on that offer.

Okay, so let me break it down for you as to how it all went down that night. Garçon Garçon were supposed to go on at about 1:30 am but wound up going on a little later (around 2-ish). LA artist Johnny Makeup opened the show singing two songs. He did a new track and for the first time sang his song with Cazwell, the club hit I Seen Beyonce... (which definitely got the club kids pumped).

When it was time for Garçon Garçon to do their thing, I got very excited because this would be my first time seeing them on stage. While they did not disappoint in the least (Nathan worked up a sweat, jumping around and danced about on stage like a unleashed beast), I was disappointed with the venue for their audio issues. The duo only got to do three songs (they performed a new song along with Stay in Touch and Hollywood Song with Cazwell before the glitches in the Matrix began to occur) and while Nick Tsirimokos (synths/production) was trying to fix the problem, the impatient DJ quickly put on the music, cutting their set short. I wasn't the only one pissed by this, and I hope the next time they stop in New York they get to put on a proper show in a much better venue because Garçon Garçon deserves it.

Check out their EP below and if you like what you hear (I promise you will), you an buy it on their website
