With Love & Hip Hop ending it's season on VH1 yesterday, I came across the pilot episode for a gay black reality show called Tha Life Atlanta. I recall posting the trailer on my blog back in 2011, but then I heard nothing about if or when the show would be airing on TV. My guess is since cable outlets have yet to give us a true gay version of shows like The Real Housewives of Atlanta or even Jersey Shore, shows depicting gays in a light other than stereotypes currently all over TV where we aren't the funny sidekicks or sexless BFF's telling straight women how to look fabulous will never see the light of day.
Yes the guys on TLA take a page out of The A List: New York and talk about how A-list and fabulous they are, but personally I found the episode to be boring. I just didn't get enough from the episode to care about any of these people. I also had a problem with the guys who call themselves "part of the lifestyle". Last time I checked being gay is a part of life. It's not something you punch in from 9-5.
The pilot, which felt like all the scenes filmed for the series thrown together without even understanding what the hell is going on lacked the screaming and fist fights that dominate programming on channels like VH1, and MTV. Also the lighting was bad at times becausae I couldn't see any of the cast members at times. Maybe the reason why Tha Life Atlanta hasn't been picked up by a network is because the cast members aren't as enteraining as someone like a Nene Leakes or Snooki. If this show is on a network, let me know so I can post future episodes (that is if there are any).
