As we continue to make strides within the LGBT community through media and politics, sometimes it's a sad reminder of how far we still have to go. As the new fall season lurks around the corner, one show that has been banned in Utah is the upcoming gay comedy series, The New Normal.
The show came to some unwanted drama earlier this summer when those cunts over at One Million Moms made some noise by trying to get sponsors to boycott the NBC show they said is “using public airwaves to continue to subject families to the decay of morals and values, and the sanctity of marriage in attempting to redefine marriage.”
So the affiliates over in Utah have agreed with their backwoods mentality and have opted to not show the new Ryan Murphy (Glee, American Horror Story) show on KSL-TV, which, shocker, is owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“From time to time we may struggle with content that crosses the line in one area or another,” Jeff Simpson, CEO of KSL’s parent company, Bonneville International, told the Salt Lake Tribune. “The dialogue might be excessively rude and crude. The scenes may be too explicit or the characterizations might seem offensive.”
That to me sounds like a bullshit excuse for their reasoning behind pulling a show that hasn't even aired yet. I'm sure in this day and age where mainstream gays are treading lightly to show we are no different than straight people, there's nothing inappropriate in the show that would cause a Mormon-owned channel to pull a show with no other reason than it involving around gay people being perceived as "normal."
GLADD took to Twitter to show their disgust on the matter:
“Shame on u @kslcom not airing @NBCTheNewNormal So L&O SVU (rape & child murder) is ok? But loving gay couple having a baby is inappropriate?” and followed with “Who does Jeff Simpson CEO of Bonneville (parent co. @KSL5TV ) find”offensive”..my Christian conservative,gay couple,or the unfertilized egg?”
My guess is they rather keep their idea of marriage as a man having multiple wives and 4500 kids as the moral majority but homosexuality will corrupt all the toothless asshats of Utah. So if there are people in Utah who would like to watch the show, my guess is search Hulu or other sites to see it because as long as the gays don't own their own networks, we have no say in the matter unless you make your voices be heard. The New Normal premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 8:30 on NBC.
