KELLY ROWLAND LANDS LEAD ROLE ON NEW BET SITCOM

Since Kelly Rowland can't seem to get a break on the solo music front, the former Destiny's Child singer and one time UK X-Factor judge has landed a new acting gig.

The singer has nabbed a role on the new BET series What Would Dylan Do, which will be executive produced by Warren Hutcherson (The Bernie Mac Show) and the singer will play Dylan, a struggling L.A.-based relationship blogger who lives with her best friend Cherise (Gabrielle Dennis, The Game) and wealthy and divorced roommate Brooke (Melanie Liburd, Strike Back). Brandon Scott (Grey’s Anatomy) will play Dylan’s neighbor and Cherise’s boyfriend Ryan.

If the pilot does well enough to get aa full series order, it will join the long list of successful BET original programs such as Reed Between the Lines, The Game and Let’s Stay Together. Other sitcoms coming to BET are Second Generation Wayans and House Husbands, the latter which is based on the BET Awards spoof The Real Husbands of Hollywood that starred Kevin Hart, Nick Cannon, Bobby Brown, Nelly and Anthony Anderson.  Kelly's acting resume includes episodes of American Dreams, The Hughleys, Single Ladies and Girlfriends, and she also starred in the horror film Freddy Vs. Jason. Not only am I excited that BET is stepping away from the stereotypical nigger nonsense that plagues black culture (VH1 has opted to carry that torch) I'm excited to see what Kelly can bring to the world of acting and since musically she has struggled to step outside of Beyonce's shadow, here's hoping there is something in entertainment that she can finally do better than Bey.
