Reality star Joey Kovar, who you may remember from The Real World: Hollywood and even did a stint on season 3 of VH1's Celebrity Rehab was found dead in his Chicago apartment yesterday. For those who watched TRW and caught him on Celebrity Rehab, it was no secret that the former personal trainer battled alcohol addiction while on the long-running MTV reality series which resorted to him seeking treatment for his alcohol and cocaine addiction with Dr. Drew.
According to The Chicago Tribune police are conducting a death investigation but no foul play is suspected, and TMZ is reporting that Kovar had taken “deadly mixture of Viagra, cocaine and alcohol.” An autopsy on Kovar's body is being conducted today. His family also said that Kovar, who also posed for Playgirl had been sober for six months before his tragic death and was working on a new project (but no word on exactly what the project is).
“Everyone is in shock right now. He seemed fine, he was happier and he was doing better,” David Kovar tells the Trib. “Everything was going very well. The very, very last thing that our family is suspecting is drugs.”
Joey leaves behind two children: A 3-year-old son and a 2-year old daughter. My heart goes out to Joey and his family, but at this point I'm really getting tired of hearing these tragic stories of people like Joey, Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston and so many others who give up the hard drugs for a long period and then suddenly succomb to their demise once they take prescription medication with alcohol.
