Last month at San Diego Comic Con, actor Thomas Jane reprised his role as the iconic crime fighter The Punisher in an excellent short film called Dirty Laundry. For those who were disappointed that the first movie didn't have enough action and the sequel (where TJ was replaced with another actor) had too much over-the-top violence but not enough story, after you see Dirty Laundry it's apparent that Thomas is by far the best actor qualified to bring Frank Castle/Punisher to life.
Here's what Jane had to say about the short, which has so far received over 2.3 million views
on YouTube: "I wanted to make a fan film for a character I've always loved and believed in - a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It's been a blast to be a part of from start to finish -- we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it."
I personally would love to see The Punisher receive another sequel. If it never makes it to the big screen, I see the series as something that may work better on the small screen as a TV series, on a much edgier network like FX, STARZ or the more action-geared Cinemax, home of shows such as Strike Back and the upcoming series Hunted and Transporter. As long as the cast, crew, producers and writers are in it for the love of the character and as a love letter to the fans like Thomas Jane it will be successful. Let a film company ruin it (like Lionsgate) and we may have a problem.
