Every Step Up movie that has come out I have waited for DVD to see, because although we are guaranteed to see some exquisite dance routines, it's never been a franchise that I have felt the need to spend $12.00 a movie ticket for.
So to get fans excited for the movie, three minutes of the opening sequence has appeared online for your visual pleasure. The fourth installment is set in Miami, FL. and when big corporations threaten to push out residents so that they can bring in their million-dollar bulldozers, Sean played by Ryan Guzman organizes a protest through dance called “The Mob”. Their dancing antics have garnered the attention of Miami newbie Emily played my So You Think You Can Dance alumni, Kathryn McCormick. Emily and Sean team up to rebel and make a difference through dance. My issue with the Step Up films is that they come across more Disneyfied than from a place where it has a bit of grime and edge, and if they took a more realistic approach then I think these films would be respected more. I love the choreography and the fact that a few of the franchise's faves are coming back (like Moose), but I just need the characters to have more depth. I'm most definitely looking forward to throwing my fist in the air and joining the revolution, but if this film gets another sequel it needs an edgier makeover.
