TITANS QUARTERBACK MATT HASSELBECK SAYS HE WOULD SUPPORT AN OPENLY GAY FOOTBALLER

Recently Tennessee Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck had a conversation with Cyd Zeigler of Outsports about sports players, such as Wade Davis coming out as gay, here's what he had to say about he and his teammates discussing it:

"The quarterback room conversation was that, ‘Hey, has anybody played with an openly gay teammate?’ And nobody had. And it’s kind of irrelevant to the discussion in terms of how we would view that person as a teammate or how we would view that person as a friend, or how we would trust that person.”

He adds: "The question did come up, well, what about in the shower? And those are tricky, delicate issues. But so are female reporters in the locker room. There’s rarely a clear, black and white answer on a lot of tricky issues. But I think, at least for the three quarterbacks in our room, it was kind of a shrug, yeah, so what?"

Matt, who is the younger brother of Tim and the brother-in-law to The View co-host Elizabeth also said it would be a "brave"move for someone who is currently playing in the NFL to come out, but says he wouldn't be fazed by it at all.


While I applaud someone like Matt and other sports players being open minded on the matter, it's up to the league to show their support for the player once they bravely come out and the environment has to be comfortable enough for them to take that step. I wish someone in sports would have the guts to come out because we need other aspects of the gay community to be shows so that people don't think all gays are defenseless, feminine, self-hating sexless eunichs - a stereotype that has plagued the community for far too long. Not all gays want to sleep with every male person they come across, and if you aren't secure enough in your manhood to fend off the advances of someone of the same gender that finds you attractive (just nicely decline), then you need to reevaluate yourself as a man. Because whenever I'm taking a showere in a room full of men, the last thing I'm thinking about is fucking any one of them.
