About eight years ago actor Thomas Jane starred in The Punisher for Lions Gate (now Lionsgate), which in my opinion is one of my favorite comic book movies. The movie didn't do to well at the box office, only grossing $54.7 million worldwide on a $33 million budget. Alot of people felt John Travolta was not the right choice to play the villain, and I did like the gay henchman twist, but in my opinion there wasn't enough of that no-holds barred brutal action that we would expect from a Punisher comic book. All the imperfetions aside, I did love the movie for the fact that it had a raw, western vibe and I thought Thomas Jane was great as Frank Castle.
So after yet another lackluster sequel came out about two years ago with a new actor in the role (Ray Stevenson from Rome), Thomas Jane has proven that he's the better man for the job with the release of an awesome short called Dirty Laundry that he premiered over the weekend at Comic-Con.
If this doesn't prove that this franchise deserves a proper reboot with TJ as Frank Castle once again, then the Gods of Hollywood can't see a good thing when it's sitting right in front of them. So I say like Mortal Kombat Legacy, someone make a series of shorts and the more people that respond positively to them the better chance The Punisher has at getting a shot at a new movie.
P.S. Loved the cameo by genre actor Ron Perlman as the guy working in the bodega.
