RICKY MARTIN TO DEVELOP AND STAR IN HIS OWN TV SERIES
Sexy pop superstar Ricky Martin, who has been in the spotlight since he was 12 years old as a international singer has made the occasional move into U.S. TV, having starred on General Hospital in the 90's and recently did a guest stint on Glee. Well it seems since coming out as a "fortunate gay man" he's having the biggest career boost of his life, currently starring on Broadway in Evita until the end of the year.
According to The Hollywood Reporter the multi-platinum singer has signed a talent holding deal with NBCUniversal that will see him developing his own starring network TV vehicle.
Here's what Universal TV EVP Bela Bajaria announced today: “Ricky is an iconic superstar who is as talented as he is popular,” she said. “Whether he’s performing before sold-out concert crowds, or starring on Broadway, where he is currently playing to SRO in Evita, Ricky connects with his audience in a very palpable way -- and we are thrilled that he will be adding TV star to his incredible resume.”
I would love to see Ricky on the small screen, but I am quite curious if he'll have the series loosely based on his life (a show about a father raising twins via surrogate), will it be a singing show (a la Glee) or something completely out of his comfort zone that will allow him to stretch his acting muscles (like a gay action hero)? Only time will tell what the show will actually become and I'm excited to see Ricky acting again.
