Prince of rock darkness Marilyn Manson is known for his outlandish outfits, in-your-face art and has the ability to piss off many people, such as religious nutbags. But if there is indeed a line he will not cross and that is listening to Lady Gaga's music.
Mr. Manson, who collaborated with Gaga on the remix to Love Game had a chat with Digital Spy, and when he was asked about the huge influence his two-decade career has had on her stage show, he says he likes her as a person but is not a fan of her music. Although he did admit that he will put on some Kylie before he listens to Gaga. (Sidebar: No one can deny Kylie's music).
"I like the general idea of what she's about. I have a hard time liking her music; it's just not the style of music I like," Manson said. "And I like a lot of music that is in that vein; I like Kylie Minogue sometimes ... I like Justin Timberlake over Lady Gaga, just musically."
And before her little monsters get pissed and flood his Twitter or anywhere else with hateful messages because someone has a different opinion than theirs, he did take issue with her ever-evolving look, saying he prefers to remain loyal to his roots.
"I prefer the Salvador Dalí approach, where you stick to one great thing that you're great at, and you do a lot of eccentric, different elements to your imagination. For me, I paint, or I'll do a movie or perform, but at the same time, I don't try to have a different look every single moment," he said. "I think it's more ephemeral, because people like to identify with one single thing; but I'm not one to knock her, she's obviously succeeded in what she's done."
Lady Gaga is not a dance artist or what I would call a real down in the dirt artist who lives and breathes their creations. She's an industry puppet from a rich upbringing and that's ok. Just don't act like you're Bjork all of a sudden and call yourself an artist when in reality you're a mainstream pop star.
While people like Madonna, Bjork, and Marilyn Marilyn don't let the outfits overshadown the music, Gaga has been so focused on being a walking coat hanger she's forgotten to bring some of that cheeky fun that dominated her debut album.
She tried the German techno approach on Born This Way and the songs were such a mess I think the Germans were wishing for Hitler to be resurrected to put them all out of their misery. I have said it so many times already about her whole manufactured aesthetic and that is with the identity-crisis fashions and the schitzoid music, Gaga is still trying to figure out who she is and what she can give millions of mainstream music listeners without being dropped by her major label. That's why she recently said her upcoming album will be a pure dance record. Bitch got bills to pay. She's got to give you simplicity on a plate, because if she were to give you some real experimental dance music, her shit wouldn't sell.
