MADONNA SETS RECORD STRAIGHT ON OLYMPIA CONCERT CONTROVERSY
Last Thursday Madonna came under fire by a few hecklers at the Olympia in Paris after giving them a 45 minute show. Many complained that they felt cheated because they spent about $100-$380.00 fror tickets in a smaller venue and only got a few songs and a 20 minute speech about French art and culture. Some even asked for a refund.
Well four days later, Madonna's longtime publicist Liz Rozenberg explained the confusion as to why the show was extremely short (it was never intended to be a full-on concert, a la the regular dates on her current MDNA Tour) and Madonna took to her website to explain the series of boos, drink throws on stage, and being called a "slut" in French. Fluent French-speaker Lola Leon would not approve of such language.
From Madonna's Website:
“Playing the Olympia was a magical moment for me and it was real treat to do this special show for my fans and be so close to them. Unfortunately at the end of the show – after I left the stage – a few thugs who were not my fans rushed the stage and started throwing plastic bottles pretending to be angry fans. The press reports have focused on this and not the joyous aspect of the evening. But nothing can take away or ruin this very special evening for me and my fans. When I looked out in the audience, everyone I saw had a smile on their face. I look forward to having this wonderful experience again.”
I watched the live stream and I thought Madonna was full of energy and gave her all. Sure she was poitchy at times with her singing, but when you are singing and dancing as hard as your backup dancers, you'd sound a little messy at times as well. I agree Madonna is one of the hardest working icons in the music business today, and no one has had the worldwide success that she has and has made it last three decades, especially in this microwave society in which we live. I just don't get why anyone would spend a shitload of money on a concert for someone they don't like to heckle them?
