HELP DONATE FUNDS TO LGBT SUMMER CAMP OUT IN THE WOODS

Here's something really cool. Singer, songwriter and performance artist Justin Vivian Bond has been tapped to emcee Out In The Woods, a music festival geared toward the LGBT community, to which proceeds go to Easton’s summer camp for LGBT youth. The festival, which is in it's second season, will have sixteen performers from different genres of music such as rock, folk and soul to Broadway, classical and cabaret. So far I don't see anyone in the electronic, pop, or hip hop LGBT community added to this festival, and maybe the only way they will get on the roster next year is to hit up the promoters and let them know they have music out they would like the concertgoers to hear.

QUEER SPIRIT CAMP


AN LGBT YOUTH SUMMER CAMP

August 6th to 11th, 2012

For the last seven years, Easton Mountain has hosted Queer Spirit Camp, an LGBT summer camp that brings together 80 - 100 young adults, many of them disenfranchised youth from NYC and Boston.

Teens and young adults come together for a week of community building where they engage in creating their own workshops from leadership training and mentoring to gender identity, race, and homophobia, in a supporting and welcoming environment.

This year, Queer Spirit Camp will reunite QSC alumni, who will come together to create new programing, rekindle friendships, mentor each other, and create innovative youth camp workshops for the coming years. We will also offer arts, theater, music and dance and yoga programs.

So far the organization has raised $6,500.00 for the camp and with just over two weeks to go and still need your help!


Many celebrities such as Katie Couric and Vanessa Williams, to name a few have put their money and support behind Easton Youth Programs, and if we want the next generation of LGBT children to carry the torch, we as older LGBT folks have to show our support to the kids.

I was lucky enough to have older gay friends who showed me what it takes to be a gay man in this crazy world, and I feel the knowledge needs to be shared with the disadvantaged, who may not have it as easy as someone like myself in regards of having guidance. And I've always had in the back of my head that when I became a famous actor that I would start my own LGBT summer camp by using some of my own money as well as donations.
