IS HE GAY OR BI? WHY WE SHOULDN'T BE SO QUICK TO CLAIM FRANK OCEAN
Ever since Frank Ocean came out in regards to revealing that his first love was of the same gender, I have been reading a lot of the comments on lots of gay blogs where people want to claim him as gay and some want to remind everyone that he is bisexual. Nowhere on his tumblr post does he even label himself as either.
Here's the thing: I have always believed that as human beings, sexuality is as fluid as the water that flows down the stream, and that people should just be themselves without having to be labeled something in order to make the people around you feel better by giving you an identity.
As someone who has attractions for the same gender, I also find women to be beautiful creatures. They smell nice, are great kissers and you don't have to worry about their five o' clock shadow brushing against your face. Sexuality goes so much deeper than a label, yet society demands for us to tell them what we are. I experience it all the time when people ask me what my racial background is. "What are you?" people often ask. My personal trainer asked the same exact question the first time we met. I, like Nicole Scherzinger have exotic features, so it's hard for people to pinpoint my origin of race (for the record I am part Black, Native American, Spaniard, Filipino, and a quarter Irish). Then when you tell people they follow it up with, "so if you had a choice what race would you identify as?" Why do I have to choose? They are all in my blood, and like race I believe that people should not have to choose which type of gender they prefer to sleep with. Now if you know deep down that you prefer someone strictly of the same gender than that's fine (gold star gay is what we call them). That's your prerogative. But what I do not like is when people try to push their own stuff on you to make themselves comfortable.
While it's more socially acceptable for two women to be bisexual and in love (that is if you look like models for Vivid Entertainment), it's harder for men to be out in this business (especially if you're not white). I say let Frank just be and while it is a milestone to have someone in the mainstream R&B club come out and declare his love for another man, let's not be so quick to claim someone because we are so desperate for a "voice". Sexuality is only a fraction of who we are as people. Let's not let it overshadow other aspects of our being.
