FRANK OCEAN BREAKS SILENCE ON WHY HE DECIDED TO COME OUT

17 days after opening up about his first love being with someone of the same gender, Frank Ocean finally breaks his silence as to why he decided to come out.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, the singer, who released his Channel Orange album last week says he came out to help himself and others who feel they have a huge burden on their chest when they are hiding such a secret.

“I wished at 13 there was somebody I looked up to who would have said something like that, who would have been transparent in that way."

The member of Odd Future also stated that he wrote the letter back in December and was going to include it in the liner notes of his album, but later decided to just release it on his blog. Now with rumors about his sexuality put to rest, Ocean says he’s “happy when I wake up in the morning, and not with this freakin’ boulder on my chest.”

Here's what he told the paper on his reasoning for coming clean,“I knew that I was writing in a way that people would ask questions.”

“I knew that my star was rising, and I knew that if I waited I would always have somebody that I respected be able to encourage me to wait longer, to not say it till who knows when,” Ocean continues.

He also said he was aware that his revelation was a huge risk, but said, “People are just afraid of things too much.”

“Sure, evil exists, extremism exists. Somebody could commit a hate crime and hurt me,” he said. “But they could do the same just because I’m black. They could do the same just because I’m American.”

Well clearly with the first week success of his album he doesn't have anything to worry about, and I applaud Frank for not being afraid to live his truth. I've always said the minute you start walking around like you got something to hide the vultures will come out and pick at your bones. There has to be a moment where you are not afraid to live your truth and not give a fuck what other people think. My friend and I were going out yesterday, and he was all loud and saying some shit that had me cringing at times, because when I'm out I don't like to draw too much attention to myself when I'm around people (I know it sounds crazy, but there are times I do not always want the spotlight on me) He said something that made a lot of sense when I told him he was being too loud. He said to me, "I don't give a fuck about these people that I'm never going to see again." He was absolutely right about his assessment.

So I say as long as you have family, friends, and colleagues who love, support and respect you as a person, it doesn't matter what some backwoods homophobic racist asshole thinks of you. They're not the one's who are going to buy your music or got see your movie, so why care about what they think of you? I'm also sure people are going to look at Frank like he needs to pick a side in regards of his sexual orientation, but as the new generation of LGBT youth continues to rise in this country, titles are no longer necessary.
