FIRST LOOK: STEEL MAGNOLIAS REMAKE HAS AN ALL-BLACK CAST



A while back it was announced that an all-black version of Steel Magnolias was being made for Lifetime, and I was a bit skeptical because I had a fear that it would become a disaster like the all-black version of The Honeymooners.

Replacing Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Daryl Hannah, Olympia Dukakis and Julia Roberts in the timeless 1989 reboot are actresses Queen Latifah (M’Lynn), Jill Scott (Truvy), Alfre Woodard (Ouiser), Adepero Oduye (Annelle), Phylicia Rashad (Clairee) and Condola Rashad (Shelby). While the new version looks to be a big hit for Lifetime, I'm really hoping based on the trailer that it's not a scene-by-scene copy of the original (like Psycho). Otherwise, what's the point of remaking the film?
